Expropriation refers to the act of a government, authority, or entity taking possession of private property for public use. This action typically occurs when there's a public interest or necessity, such as for infrastructure projects like building roads, railways, schools, or hospitals. In Ontario, the formal expropriation process is governed by the Expropriations Act.
